Venturer KLV3915 15.4in Kitchen TV/DVD Combo

Venturer KLV3915 Under Cabinet TV

Every year it seems that television screens get bigger and bigger. So it's no wonder that this craze should also spill over into the kitchen TV market with the introduction of the best selling Venturer KLV3915 LCD TV/DVD.

At 15in, the KLV3915 has one of the largest screen sizes available in an under cabinet TV. This fact alone will no doubt be enough for many a home chef to consider an upgrade as well as those stuck squinting at 7in portables.

The screen itself can rotate a full 270 degrees and folds up into the base unit when not in use. The remote control is magnetic so it's never further than your fridge door and the TV's controls are wipe-clean for easy maintenance. It has a ATSC TV tuner, DVD player, AM/FM radio and clock/timer.

In the box are detailed instructions and an installation kit complete with mounting screws, spacers and a template to position the mount holes correctly.

To get the most out of the KLV3915 it is important to pick the right install location. An under cabinet TV is a permanent fixture so re-locating it at a later date is a real hassle. Selecting the optimal position now is time well spent.

Start by considering the layout of your kitchen and where you spend most of your time. Typically this is near the sink, stove or work surface areas. Look for a nearby cabinet that you can see easily without having to twist your neck too much. Depending on your kitchen layout there might be several locations to consider.

If you are installing into an existing kitchen look for nearby plugs. At a minimum you are going to need a wall socket and a aerial or cable line. If your installation is part of a larger kitchen remodeling project make sure to include these connections early on in the wiring plan.

Now that you have a location and selected some nearby connections you are ready for the installation. Venturer include a handy mounting template that has the position of the mounting holes printed on it. Carefully tape the template to the underside of the cabinet and check the alignment. Pay special attention to the clearance between the rear of the TV and the back wall. You will need about 1"-1.5" to have enough room for the connections. If your cabinets are not very deep you might find you have less than that. In this situation pick up some right angle plugs at your local electronics store.

Drill the holes as indicated in the instructions. The installation comes with a selection of bolts and washers that can be used to secure the TV's base unit in place (this is best done with the help of an assistant).

If your cabinet has a decorative overhang you may need to include some plastic spacers so as the TV's controls are not obstructed. Use the minimum length necessary so as to maintain sufficient clearance between the screen and counter top below.

The last remaining step is to hook up the power and signal line and check that everything is working correctly.

The move to larger screen sizes could prove to be an important turning point for under cabinet TVs in general and the Venturer KLV3915 in particular. It's too early to tell if this move will be as popular with consumers as the manufacturers are hoping, but if nothing else it has opened up kitchen TV viewing to a much wider audience.
